SP6 AVAILABLE!!!

Dear friends,

we can finally announce that it is now possible to connect to the new
SP6 HPC system (ssh username a sp.sp6.cineca.it)
Basic start-up instructions can be found at:

Detailed documentation will follow soon.
Please notice the following important points:

- ALL ACTIVE users of SP5 OR BCX can access SP6 (via ssh -->
sp.sp6.cineca.it) with the same username and password. This means that
new users (e.g. new users of the last INAF call) have not been defined
yet. This will be done soon!!!

- CINECA_HOME will NEVER be available on SP6. Your home directory is now
$HOME and it is the LOGIN directory. This means that you have to copy
all your stuff on the system re-creating your home environment.The $HOME
quota is 2 GB per user.

- CINECA_DATA will be mounted soon BUT it is very slow. A NEW archive
area, faster and more efficient, will be available in the next future.

- CINECA_SCRATCH is the working area (/gpfs/scratch/usergroup/username -
NOTICE the "gpfs" at the beginning of the path). It has NO BACKUP and it
is a TEMPORARY storage area. At present it is in a temporary
configuration, which will be destroied as soon as all the corresponding
hardware will be available (a few days). At that point everything on
scratch will be lost.

- CART (long term storage) system is not yet available

- Software is available via "MODULE" commands. The software stack is
being completed in these days (so more and more software/libraries will
be progressively available).

- There is no accounting yet. The system at the moment is "free". The
budget which is associated to your user is inherited from BCX or SP5,
but it is not considered at the moment.

- Some unpredictable stability problems may appear with the number of
users increasing.
