Leonardo: ongoing Storage Infrastructure Issue (https://www.hpc.cineca.it/newsletter/leonardo-ongoing-storage-infrastructure-issue/)

18 June 2026

Dear Users,

We are currently experiencing an infrastructure issue affecting the storage systems, specifically the $WORK filesystem. The problem may result in slow filesystem access, I/O operations becoming unresponsive, and applications or services hanging while waiting for storage resources.

As a consequence of this issue, some compute nodes have been automatically removed from production. Jobs running on those nodes may have been interrupted or terminated unexpectedly.

For the reasons described above, we strongly recommend avoiding the use of the $WORK area until further notice, as operations involving WORK may experience severe performance degradation, become unresponsive, or fail unexpectedly.

Our technical team is actively investigating the issue and working to restore normal service as quickly as possible.

We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Kind regards,

User Support at CINECA
