SP5 is OPEN!

Finalmente abbiamo aperto SP5 (sp.sp5.cineca.it)!

Tutti gli utenti che avevano un account attivo su SP4 possono accedere a
SP5 con gli stessi username e password.

Con l'occasione pubblichiamo la nostra User Guide: e' il documento di
riferimento per SP5 e per gli altri sistemi di supercalcolo. La trovate
su WEB qui (per ora):

Ci sono novita' importanti rispetto ad SP4, soprattutto per quanto
riguarda la modalita' di compilazione e di sottomissione: consultate la
User Guide, in particolare "Main differences upgrading from SP4 to SP5".

Alcune precisazioni che riguardano lo stato di "pre-produzione" di SP5:

SCRATCH:

Parte dei problemi che abbiamo osservato su /scratch, che era
fisicamente quello di SP4, ci costringono a farne una copia - ora in
corso: attualmente /scratch e' accessibile, ma READ-ONLY.

Per questa ragione evitate di utilizzare $TMPDIR nei vostri script batch
per ora: $TMPDIR punta a /scratch.

Appena la copia sara' terminata (speriamo lunedi') ri-creeremo /scratch.
Avrete cosi' a disposizione:
- la copia read-only di /scratch di SP4 su un altro filesystem;
- il nuovo /scratch "vergine".
Vi avvertiremo su hpc-news appena questo sara' sistemato.

ACCOUNTING:

Al momento il sistema e' aperto ma non in produzione: l'accounting
funziona ma i consumi sono congelati. Questo perche' potremmo aver
bisogno di effettuare operazioni di manutenzione sul sistema in questa
fase iniziale - speriamo di no!

Finally, we have opened SP5 (sp.sp5.cineca.it)!

All the users that had an active account on SP4, can now log in to SP5
with the same username and password.

With this event, we do publish our User Guide: it is the reference
document for SP5 and for the other HPC systems. You can find it here
(for now):

There are important news with respect to SP4, especially regarding
compilation and submission: consult our User Guide, in particular "Main
differences upgrading from SP4 to SP5".

Some details about the "pre-production" state of SP5:

SCRATCH:

part of the problems that we have observed on /scratch, that was
physically the one of SP4, oblize us to make a copy of it, now running:
/scratch is now available but READ-ONLY.

For this reason avoid to use $TMPDIR in your batch scripts at the
moment: $TMPDIR is defined into /scratch.

Once the copy will be finished (we hope on next Monday), we will
re-create /scratch. You will be able to access to:
- the read-only copy of SP4's /scratch on another filesystem;
- the new empty /scratch.
We will send a notice to hpc-news once all of it will be over.

ACCOUNTING:

At this time the systems is opened but not in production: the accounting
system works, but the accounted time is freezed. This happens because we
could have the need to make some maintenance operation in this early
phase - we hope we don't!
